ImageSUZHOU – China’s entry for Oscar’s foreign language category, “The Knot”, is tipped to dominate at this week’s Golden Rooster Awards, China’s top kudosfest.

The pic has won eight nominations out of 18 in the Golden Rooster, China’s answer to the Oscars, including a nomination for best director for helmer Yin Li. He will compete with “Tokyo Trial” helmer Gao Qunshu and four other rivals in the coveted category.

“Knot” thesp Li Binging is up for best actress, as is Rene Liu and Carina Lau, while pic’s Chen Kun, who won the best actor award at August's Huabiao Film Awards, will vie for the same title, along with five contenders.

Fest will also screen 20 foreign movies, selected from 70 entries, competing for best international film. These include the Mexican-Spanish co-prod ”Pan's Labyrinth”, the Finnish-German-French collaboration “Lights in The Dusk” and Dutch helmer Martin Koolhoven’s “Schnitzel Paradise.”

This is the 16th staging of the Golden Rooster and Full Blossom Film Festival, to give it its full title, and the awards carry a lot of weight in the domestic biz in China. It runs from October 23 to 28 in the picturesque eastern city of Suzhou, not far from Shanghai.
