Shanghai University Student Films Showcased at HIFF PDF Print E-mail
ImageAs part of the partnership between the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) and the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), 2007 marked the second student exchange between Uiniversity of Hawaii at Manoa's ACM School and the Shanghai University film school. An ACM shorts program was presented at SIFF in June. In return, 5 films from the prestigious Shanghai University film school will be showcased at HIFF on October 21, 2007.The 5 films are:
 
2006 World Cup and the Little Buddha (d. Dragon Long, 9 min.)
A young undergrad ventures off to a Tibetan Village for some personal refuge during the 2006 World Cup finals. There, he meets a young Tibetan monk and finds the answers he was looking for.
 
As Time Goes By (d. Ding Ying, 29 min.)
Under the care of a mature woman and her husband for a decade, a girl has been undergoing an evolution - both physically and emotionally.
 
Change (d. Zhang Yilu, 18 min.)
A young salaryman is shocked to discover the clandestine relationship between his girlfriend and evil boss. Using a time bending spell, he is transported ala Dave Bowman and the great beyond into the past, to rewrite history.
 
Listen to the Porter's Heart (d. Wu Zhehua, 23 min.)
Rooted in the city of Chongqing, 'bangbang' (porters) are peasant workers who deliver goods (in varying degrees of weight and size) that are tied to a one-meter bamboo stick and balanced on their backs, as they trek through the busy city streets to their final destination.
 
Summer Time (d. Ji Zhonglu, 20 min.)
SUMMER TIME is a poetic love story between a young girl from another province and a young lad during one summer in 1980s Shanghai.
