Born in December 1955, Mr. Ren began his professional career in 1974. From January 1983 to December 1996, Ren was Vice Chair and Professor of the Chinese Department, Shanghai Normal University. From December 1996 to November 2000, Ren served as Editor-In-Chief of the Wenhui Film Times, a subsidiary of Wenhui Daily, one of China's most influential newspapers in Shanghai.

Ren was appointed Vice President of SMEG (Shanghai Media and Entertainment Group), President of the Shanghai Film Group Corporation and Shanghai Film Studio in 2003. He has held these positions since then.  Ren is also Vice Chair of Shanghai Writers' Association (SWA).
