According to Qinghua University's Center for Media Management Research, media consumption and spending in China reached 300 Billion RMB (Chinese Yuan; about US$40 Billion) in 2004. The estimated results are as follows:

  1. Book Industry: 110 Billion;
  2. Advertising Company: 51.3 Billion;
  3. TV Advertising: 30.9 Billion;
  4. Magazine: 30 Billion;
  5. Newspaper Advertising: 26.5 Billion;
  6. Cell Messaging: 21.7 Billion;
  7. Print Newspaper: 20 Billion;
  8. Cable Subscription: 12.8 Billion; 
  9. Internet: 9 Billion;
  10. Film Box-Office: 3.6 Billion;
  11. Magazine Advertising: 3.2 Billion;
  12. Radio Advertising: 3.2 Billion;
  13. Audio-Visual Products: 2.7 Billion;
  14. Game Industry: 2.5 Billion.
